LWM: Python for Machine Learning

We're back!

September 9, 2022

We’re back, bb!

It’s been awhile since I last streamed, blogged, or did anything remotely related to community content and y’all I have missed you! I’m so excited to get back into streaming, and I’m even more excited to be doing it as a way to learn Python for Machine Learning.

Where to watch the live stream
I’ll be streaming on my twitch channel: twitch.tv/kierisi on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00PM - 8:30PM Central.

But there’s a catch! To help mitigate against burnout I’ll be doing two weeks on, one week off. I’m hoping that by building in regular time off from streaming it’ll enable me to be consistent over the next year or so. I’ll do my best to keep the calendar on Twitch up to date, and you can always reach out to me on Twitter if you have questions.

Where to watch recordings
Listen I get it - making a live stream doesn’t always work. Maybe you’re in an incompatible time zone, or maybe you’re out enjoying the beautiful weather. Even though I think my streams are fun enough to arrange your entire life around, you may not feel the same. So I’ll be posting recordings of each stream on my YouTube channel.

Recordings will be available within a week of running live on Twitch.

What to expect

If you’ve never participated in a Twitch stream, I’ve got an overview of Twitch for you here. The long and short of it is that I’ll be going live and streaming my learning process, with the caveat that streams do get off-track, off-topic, and have a tendency to devolve into utter chaos. This is part of the fun and a huge part of why I stream - I love hanging out with y’all and chatting and having a good time.

I’ll be loosely following the excellent Data Science Handbook from Jake VanderPlas. But rather than read through chapters on-stream (yawn!) I’ll read chapters ahead of time, and show up to stream to work through problem sets related to the chapter or build out a project that incorporates the skills and content covered in the chapter for that week.

You’re absolutely welcome to read along with me and work through problem sets as I do! You’re also welcome to ask questions in chat - I may not know the answer, but between Google and some of the regulars who hang out in chat we should be able to help you out.

What not to expect

This is not - I repeat not - a planned series of lectures, workshops, or classes. I will be sharing my learning process and experience as I’m literally experiencing it, and I’ll be struggling and making mistakes live on stream, but I will not be preparing slides, a talk, or anything even resembling a class or workshop. There are plenty of great places for you to have those experiences, but my stream is not one of them.

When do we start?

Tuesday, September 20th - see you then!
